MMW Kids activities

Comments on what to put up for kids to do while we play?

Lego - make the brick from the bricks... I'd like to find a Lego enthusiasts group that wants to play - I don't think LEGO themselves would come out, and the pro's are likely to be expensive.

Thoughts on Autocross planning

Rating cars will be the hard part - this auto-x will be different than SCCA/NASA/AAS et al - 'cause the base model(s) are so close. I'm going to diverge a little from past add-it-up methods, but those will be a starting point.

Two things make the difference in the car:
HP and Tires.

I'm tentatively going to do a points thing for HP and modifier points for suspension - then another modifier/multiplier for tires...

I'll be going to a few local events to see what tires and what cars I see doing what times.
What I need there is for the clubs to send extensive info about cars (what car, what mods) and number of autocrosses driven, and what tires (and maybe how old).

I've got a few months to work out the bugs on paper via statistical gathering.

The One bad wild card is the Driver... We did an MM autocross where Dennis Jack and I uprated certain cars due to driver, we might do that again - trophy distribution and competition was MUCH more even.

Mini Meet West 2011

We've gone to assay the Tahoe area!

good vibes for Auto-x at Mt. Rose - they did a Street Survival School with the BMWCCA and Tire Rack in June. Left lots of skidmarks.

IMHO I-80 is NOT suitable for trailers, and I wouldn't drive my mini on it (classic) after having experienced it in the big-blue-bus (Vanagon), So:
Looked at alternates - West rim and US-50 home were relaxing and scenic, by far an improvement and the pavement won't rip the mounts outta anything. About 35 minutes longer w/o scenic stops. there were many scenic stops... Make a day of it!

Looking at alternate arrival drives from all points:
207 Kingsbury hwy from 395 south - great vistas, 9 percent grade, NG for heavy loads... optoion to scenic the east or west sides.
50 from Carson, easy and wide and boring, easy to do the east side.
Mt Rose hwy, Great all around, a bit of a steep climb. OK for all vehicles, maybe slow for heavy ones and 998 Automatics...
Still working on 88 and an alternate from the north...
Last experience on 60 from the east - take Mt' Rose, it's more direct, quicker and easier on your sspension

~Really I can't say how bad 80 really is for you - but;
I trailered a Hobie-cat from Reno to Sac and both the Cat and the trailer suffered moderate damage (at 50mph).
...Trailered a serously damaged Prindle from South lake via 50 at 65 mph and lost no pieces until I untied it from the trailer (hulls had been crushed by snow).
~and on this weekends checkout my head was pounding and my teeth gritted until about 20 minutes after dinner and a beer and a half.

Ya makes your choises and playz da games...
